Ann Simerwell papers, 1851-1854.

This small collection contains the papers of Ann J. Simerwell. There is a diary (dated January through April of 1851) describing her experiences at a boarding school, thought to be Monticello, Illinois. She talks about her school work, church, and other activities. There is a card of addresses as well as letters received from 1852 to 1854. Most of the letters praise her family's work as Indian missionaries. The collection also includes some clippings and undated poetry.

Ann J. Simerwell was the daughter of Robert and Fanny Simerwell, missionaries to the Pottawatomie in Michigan and Kansas. She was born in 1832 and died in 1857 a cripple.
